Indigenous manufacturer of Zinox computers, Zinox Technologies Limited says it is working toward coming up with Pentium IV.
The Abuja Branch Manager of the company, Mr Emma Onuegbu who spoke with Business Week in Kaduna, said the plan was in line with Zinox's preparedness to move along with
current trends in the world of information technology. The branch manager who maintained that his company was aware of the dynamism in information technology, disclosed that over 10 billion naira has been invested to facilitate the development of the project on Pentium IV.
While describing the response of Nigerians to the company's made-in-Nigeria computers as tremendous, Onuegbu said: "In fact I now know that Nigerians want to identify with local products. We are just about 4 months old but we have sold about 2,000 systems."
The volume of the systems sold, according to him, could be valued at over 200 million naira.
"We don't sell directly to end users. We have authorised partners who are found all over the country. For any Zinox System picked up from there, we back it up with maintenance support," Onuegbu disclosed.
The branch manager also revealed that his company is working towards developing computers with flat screen.Zinox's new pentium project when complete would be the newest processor in use. Presently, computer users utilise mostly Pentium II and III.
Zinox Technologies Limited, which has its factory in Lagos and zonal offices in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos is reputed to be the second best PC manufacturer in Africa after Mustek of South Africa.
It has Stan Technologies of Nigeria, Mustek of South Africa which is certified by Microsoft, and a French company as partners.
